Launched in 1997 with a pilot program of two teams, the Indiana K-9 Resource Protection Program is recognized as one of the top programs in the nation. Today, there are 10 K-9 units located throughout Indiana, with at least one in each of the 10 DNR Law Enforcement districts.
Trained in human-tracking, wildlife detection, and article searches, the K-9 teams play an integral role in stopping poaching and locating missing persons and frequently assist state and local law enforcement agencies thanks to their unique abilities.
The program has helped start and train teams from nine other state natural resources agencies (Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, and Washington), and the country of Zambia.

You Can Support These K-9 Teams
Donations to Indiana’s K-9 units help fund much needed items for the safety and well-being of the K-9s that fall outside of the operational budget. These include veterinary expenses, GPS tracking units, heat alarms for the vehicles that transport the K-9s, and more. Your gifts help the teams continue to protect our natural resources. Select “K9 LE” in the dropdown menu when making your donation.
